The holidays are here! For many that mean traveling to spend time with family who live several hours away. In the business of preparing to leave don’t forget to keep your family healthy.
Germs flow in abundance in crowded, busy place like airports, train terminals and bus stations. You want to have a strong immune system before heading to your distention.
If you don’t check your luggage it can be hard to get all your natural remedies in your carry-on. Normally I check my luggage but at times I’ve just taken my carry on. I don’t like to travel with out my home remedies; especially when I know that I am going to be exposed to lots of germs.
If you have traveled by air in resent years you know that you can’t carry on more than 3.4 ounces (100ml) of liquid per container in a quart sized plastic zip lock bag. That makes it tricky when you have tincture, lotions, cough syrups, ect.
You can bring many natural remedies on the plane it just takes a little creativity!
Here is what you will find in my carry-on:
- Tinctures (Immunity Boosting Tincture and Pain Be Gone Tincture)
- Lotion bars (Because they are solid there is not need to worry about using some of you’re allotted liquid on lotion.)
- Capsules (You can put your favorite herbs in capsules using a capsule machine before you leave.)
- Salves (DYI Chest Rub, Healing Salve, and Soothing Balm)
- Chap Stick
- Tea (The flight attendants will give you hot water upon request.)
- Tea Strainer
- Ginger Chews (Perfect for those that get sick on the planes. I chew on them during take off and landing to help with nausea and poping my ears.)
- Filtered Water Bottle
- Plastic Resealable Bags
Select which tinctures are most important. For me my top two would be immunity boosting tincture and headache tincture.
Mountain Rose Herbs sells glass bottles in many different sizes. For traveling I buy small glass dropper bottles that hold 1 to 3 ounces. This allows me to carry on what I need with out going over the maximum. If you are checking your luggage it’s still great to have small amounts of your tinctures with you on hand. I wrap my bottles in a online casinos sock or handkerchief and keep them in a resalable bag to provide padding and to prevent them from leaking.
Mountain Rose Herbs also sells small metal tins. When traveling I use the ½ oz or 1 oz tins. They are small and fit in your carry-on perfectly.
Filtered water bottles are a must for me. Bottle water cost so much money and is not good for you! I bring my filtered water bottle empty through security and then fill it with tap water. Yea, on saving money and healthy choices!
I have traveled to Israel and multiple places in the States with these very items and have never encountered any problems. TSA has a complete list of prohibited items.
Making healthy traveling decisions doesn’t end with bring your natural remedies on board the plane. It is also important to have wholesome, nutrient dense foods with you as you travel. Mare, of Just Making Noise, just arrived home to Honduras from the States with 4 kiddos, one of them being 1 month old! This experienced, world traveling natural mama has a great selection wholesome meals and snacks for airplane travel.
We all know that traveling with kids isn’t easy. Zo&Co is an amazing company that makes Travel Totes for use in planes, cars, trains, and buses. They come in three styles, Original Travel Tote, Kids Travel Tote and Tech Travel Tote. The totes are cleverly designed with 4 to 6 pockets and slide on and off the seat back pocket, keeping everything you would want for your trip in reach. When your trip is over fold the Travel Tote up and store in your carry-on.
I use mine every time I travel filling it with my water bottle, ginger chews, chap stick, book and iPod. For all you mamas out there this is going to be your new best friend when you travel. You can fill it with all sorts of things to keep the kiddos busy without having to reach into your carry on every few minutes.
There you have it, now you can travel naturally with ease!
